The new COTS TÜV-Mark was designed to provide an easy and reliable way to identify COTS products sold in the marketplace that will function properly when installed with a military product's final equipment or system. The COTS TÜV-Mark removes the dilemma of trying to determine if independent analysis, evaluation, and testing have been completed to qualify a product for electrical, electromagnetic, and environmental engineering standards of the U.S. military. The COTS TÜV-Mark essentially provides manufacturers a visible certification mark that offers the unique distinction of differentiating a COTS product from products that have been self-certified by a manufacturer as meeting minimum market safety requirements.

Users of COTS products will also find the COTS TÜV-Mark provides clear distinction, allowing users to easily identify equipment that truly complies with necessary military standards such as MIL-STD-704E, MIL-STD-810F or MIL-STD-901D.
