EMC
Services
Does your product
comply with necessary EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) standards? Do
your equipment's critical functions continue without interruption when
subjected to Electromagnetic Interference? These questions are taken seriously
in an industry demanding safety and reliability as the standard for quality;
where there can be no mistakes. At TÜV, we provide rigorous EMC testing
services specific to the Aerospace, Avionics and Defense Industries, giving
you the confidence you need to gain FAA approval, supplier prerequisites
or to comply with strict military requirements.
Our state-of-the-art facilities offer Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
testing for:
- RTCA/DO-160
- MIL-STD-461
- EUROCAE/ED-14
- Def-Stan 59-41
- Multiple-Burst and Multiple-Stroke Lightning
- HIRF Testing
- Environmental Testing
At TÜV, we offer a unique approach,
providing comprehensive test plans and automated testing facilities that
can be tailored to meet your specific testing requirements.
Whether we support your project from the early development stages to final
qualification testing, TÜV is dedicated to providing
you the product support needed to meet your EMC/EMI requirements.
RTCA/DO-160
RTCA/DO-160 is published by RTCA, Inc., a global organization comprised
of industry and government representatives that develop standards to
assure the safety and reliability of all Aviation Electronics equipment
(Avionics). Manufacturers of Commercial Avionics equipment selling their
products in the United States, Europe, and around the globe must meet
RTCA requirements, including RTCA/DO-160. The European Organization for
Civil Aviation Electronics (EUROCAE) works jointly with RTCA in the development
of avionics standards, and publishes its own, identical document known
as EUROCAE/ED-14.
TÜV SÜD America is a member of RTCA and participates in the development
and ongoing change of the DO-160 standard.
TÜV SÜD America can test your products to the rigorous EMC and
Lightning requirements found in RTCA/DO-160. Not only are we able to
perform Radiated Susceptibility testing, but also we are
among the few labs whose testing is fully computer-assisted. Computer-assisted
testing assures accurate and consistent results with the repeatability
that is not obtainable using manual methods.
TÜV provides RTCA/DO-160 testing services
for:
- Section 4 Temperature & Altitude*
- Section 5 Temperature Variation*
- Section 6 Humidity*
- Section 7 Operational Shock & Crash
Safety*
- Section 8 Vibration*
- Section 9 Explosion Proofness*
- Section 10 Waterproofness*
- Section 11 Fluids Susceptibility*
- Section 12 Sand and Dust*
- Section 13 Fungus Resistance*
- Section 14 Salt Spray*
- Section 15 Magnetic Effect
- Section 16 Power Input
- Section 17 Voltage Spike
- Section 18 Audio Frequency Conducted
Susceptibility Power Inputs
- Section 19 Induced Signal Susceptibility
- Section 20 Radio Frequency Susceptibility
(Radiated & Conducted)
- Section 21 Emission of Radio Frequency
Energy
- Section 22 Lightning
Induced Transient Susceptibility
- Section 23 Lightning Direct Effects*
- Section 24 Icing*
- Section 25 Electrostatic Discharge
- Section 26 Fire, Flammability*
* Environmental Testing.
MIL-STD-461
MIL-STD-461 establishes the design requirements for the control of the
electromagnetic emission and susceptibility characteristics of equipment
and subsystems used by activities and agencies of the US Department of
Defense.
EUROCAE/ED-14
European Union version of RTCA/DO-160.
Def-Stan 59-41
United Kingdom's Ministry of Defense EMC standard, similar to MIL-STD-461.
Representatives from TÜV Product Service participated in the development
of Def-Stan 59-41.
Multiple-Burst and Multiple-Stroke Lightning
Multiple-Burst and Multiple-Stroke Lightning (indirect effects) testing
as described in FAA Advisory Circular 20-136, verifies that your product
will survive or continue to operate during and after a lightning related
event involving the aircraft.
TÜV Product Service can perform Single-Stroke, Multiple-Stroke, and
Multiple-Burst indirect effects testing according to RTCA/DO-160, Boeing
D6-16050-4, and other Airframer-specific requirements.
HIRF Testing
High Intensity Radiated Fields (HIRF) result from high-power radio frequency
transmitters such as radio and television stations, radar, and satellite
uplink transmitters, and can effect the performance of all electronic
equipment onboard an aircraft. Testing to HIRF simulates the effects these
high power radio frequency threats have on your equipment, ensuring your equipment operates safely without interruption,
failure, or malfunctions.
TÜV SÜD America's HIRF testing includes testing
to AC/AMJ 20-1317.
