TÜV SÜD America Inc. is leading the way in bringing Bluetooth products to the global marketplace by featuring a Bluetooth laboratory, operated in partnership with 7 layers AG, featuring a suite of highly specialized Rohde & Schwarz TS8960 test and measurement equipment. This specialized laboratory was built in response to the explosive demand for new products featuring Bluetooth wireless technology. The TÜV / 7 layers Bluetooth facility will serve as a valuable addition to TÜV's existing wireless and RF product certification services.

What is Bluetooth Wireless Technology?
Bluetooth wireless technology is an always-on, short-range radio technology, which facilitates the communication between electronic devices across limited distances without cables, wires, or any physical connection. Operating at the industrial-scientific-medical (ISM) band at 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth wireless technology is positioned to revolutionize the way users interact with a growing list of products to be sold in the marketplace.

Developed originally in the 1990's by mobile-phone maker Ericsson, Bluetooth wireless technology has recently been promoted as a cross-industry standard by high-tech heavyweights such as Nokia, Intel, IBM, Toshiba, Microsoft, Lucent, Motorola and 3Com who joined forces with Ericsson in 1998 to form the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG). In addition to the SIG members, over 2000 small and medium-sized companies have signed up for royalty-free rights to provide the foundation for the emerging technology's growth.

Gaining Bluetooth Compliance
In gaining Bluetooth compliance, the testing & qualification process generally involves a two-pronged process, including both regulatory and Bluetooth wireless technology specific requirements.

First, every product must meet the relevant, global mandatory requirements regulating wireless and radio devices. TÜV SÜD America can evaluate your product's specifications and intended use to determine the appropriate regulatory test plan for national and country-specific standards. Next, our experienced team of engineers and technicians conducts all necessary Radio, EMC and Electrical Safety testing. Regulatory testing is performed in the U.S. at our state-of-the-art test center located in Southern California.

Step two includes the formal Bluetooth wireless technology test & qualification process. TÜV, in partnership with 7 layers AG, delivers one of the most comprehensive Test & Qualification services in the world. TÜV and 7 layers manage the entire process to ensure timely and productive completion of your project.
